Say you have a bunch of text documents, some spreadsheets, and some presentations and you want to know how many words are in each of them. Simply load these files into AnyCount, instruct it to count words, and let it do its job. The application will do as instructed and present you with a report, report that you can copy to the clipboard, export, or print out.

The AnyCount installer is about 35MB in size. Download it, run it, and you will be presented with a setup wizard that will take you through the installation process. You’ll have to go through the standard steps: agree to the license, pick where to install the application, select an additional language, and so on. Overall, installing AnyCount is a simple task that won’t pose any problems.

When the installation process is over and you launch AnyCount, the application will automatically look for updates. Then it will present you with an Initial Setup prompt that allows you to select what the application counts (characters with spaces, characters without spaces, lines, pages, words) and allows you to disable the Show Hints option. Do note that these hints can be very useful in helping you get started with AnyCount and its functionality.

Speaking about functionality, using AnyCount is a very simple three step process:
Step 1 – add files. The nice thing here is that AnyCount provides support for lots of formats: TXT, RTF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPS, PPT, PPSX, PPTX, WPD, ZIP, RAR, HTML, XML, PDF, ODT, SXW, SDW, SXC, SDC, ODP, SXI, SDD, HLP, CHM, SLP, VSD, BMP, JPG, GIF, PNG. Another nice thing is that AnyCount comes with a built-in library of samples that you can use.
Step 2 – tell the application what you want it to do. Tell it if you want to count words or characters (with or without spaces), if you want to include hidden text, if you want to exclude footnotes, and so on.
Step 3 – launch the counting process. AnyCount will quickly do its job and present a report to you. You can copy that report to the clipboard, export it to PDF, RTF, HTML, XLS, or DOC, or print it out.

Please note that there are three AnyCount editions: Standard, Professional, and Enterprise. The amount of file formats the application supports depends on the edition. The Standard edition supports 13 formats, the Professional edition supports 32, and the Enterprise edition supports 36 file formats. The Enterprise edition also includes an invoicing system.

AnyCount is an amazing application. It truly counts anything!
